My reactions to the recent constraints and restrictions brought on by the pandemic have been complicated and often conflicting. A desire for escape and freedom has been countered- sometimes simultaneously- with a desire to burrow deeper into my own internal mazes and caves. At times the latter has felt like a different kind of freedom.

These themes keep surfacing in my current work. Various entities- perhaps life forms not fully defined- seethe or exult in their confinement or isolation. Peaceful backgrounds contrast with more chaotic foregrounds. Shapes and colors split, converge, repel, entwine. Things are caught, released, stand alone, or merge.

As always for me, ideas of connection and disjunction feature prominently in my art, as do the relationships among living things.
